TAI ER SICHUAN CUISINE 太二酸菜鱼 (FLUSHING) offers an authentic dive into the bold and vibrant flavors of Sichuan cuisine right in the heart of Flushing, NY. Specializing in the celebrated suancai fish dishes, this Chinese restaurant masterfully captures the essence of Sichuan’s famous pickled sauerkraut fish style, making it a must-visit destination for adventurous food lovers and fans of hearty, spicy fare alike.
From the moment you step into TAI ER SICHUAN CUISINE, you’ll notice an inviting ambiance that feels warm yet energetic, perfectly matching the fiery food on offer. The intimate dining space is balanced with tasteful décor, creating an atmosphere that encourages sharing and savoring a variety of dishes.
The restaurant’s crown jewel is undoubtedly the Lao Tan ZI Pickled Fish Standard Version for 2-3 People, a dish that has won over many patrons, including delighted guests like Kiki Reeves and Huiting Jia. Imagine tender, fresh white fish swimming in a tangy, spicy broth of pickled cabbage — the interplay of sour, spicy, and umami flavors hits your palate with a delightful punch, awakening every taste bud. As Luke Johnson aptly described, the richness of the broth combined with the delicate texture of the fish and the piquant sauerkraut creates an unforgettable feast for the senses.
But the flavorful journey doesn’t stop there. TAI ER’s menu features a variety of authentic Sichuan specialties, including the fiery Mapo Tofu and the crispy, addictive 小酥肉 (crispy pork with seaweed flakes) that offers a pleasant crunch layered with subtle umami. The Stir-Fried Green Bean with minced pork delivers a perfect balance of smokiness and texture, while the Spicy Boneless Chicken Feet provide a unique, lip-smacking experience drenched in the housemade chili oil.
For those craving something less fiery, dishes like the Non-Spicy Sauerkraut Fish Combo and the comforting Braised Beef Noodle Soup with Chicken Wings offer wonderfully robust flavors without overpowering heat. The menu also extends to shareable appetizers like the Appetizer Platter, which beautifully combines crispy pork, shrimp crackers, chicken wings, and fries — perfect for sampling an array of tastes in one go.
No authentic Sichuan meal at TAI ER is complete without a refreshing beverage or a sweet finish. The Passion Fruit Jasmine Iced Tea with Lemon Slices is a fragrant and invigorating choice that perfectly cuts through the richness of the main courses. Meanwhile, traditional desserts such as the Brown Sugar Syrup Ice Jelly with Grass Jelly, Hawthorn Slices, and Red Bean Paste provide a cool, subtly sweet contrast that cleanses the palate.
What truly elevates the dining experience here, beyond the vivid and genuine flavors, is the hospitable and attentive service. Customers repeatedly commend the staff’s warmth and attentiveness, making each visit feel personal and cared for — a quality that enhances the overall enjoyment and invites repeated visits.
Whether you’re a Sichuan cuisine aficionado or a curious newcomer, TAI ER SICHUAN CUISINE stands out by delivering authentic, deeply satisfying dishes that echo the traditions of China’s Sichuan province. Great experience! We came here for the suancai fish and it was delicious. The staff were super friendly and even brought us several cups of tea, which made us really happy. Excellent service and tasty food — we’ll definitely be back!
We stopped by the Tangram Mall and noticed the nice decor with their fish specialty. The fruit tea was quite strong even after a few pours. The spare ribs were a tad bit sweet. The noodles and the chicken were much spicier than anticipated, so it took a while to get through that. I didn't notice the fish soup and shrimp already came with some noodles, so extra noodles was redundant The fish soup was a tad bit sour, but well made. The shrimp plate was decent, it was overcooked and felt too saucy. The dessert was sweet for my liking. Oddly enough the child's plate was the most balanced and most appreciated
I had an incredible experience at Tai Er! The food is absolutely amazing and tastes exactly the same as what I had back in China — authentic, flavorful, and unforgettable. Every dish was spot on, bringing me right back to those familiar flavors I’ve missed. The staff were also wonderful — welcoming, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for true authentic Chinese cuisine!
Tai Er’s Suancai Fish is a flavor explosion! The tender white fish soaked in that tangy, spicy pickled cabbage broth is absolutely addictive. The balance between sour, spicy, and savory is just perfect — every bite wakes up your taste buds. Plus, the portion size is generous and great for sharing. Definitely a must-try if you love bold Sichuan flavors!
Tai er is very much excellent. Sauerkraut fish is something new to me, however it turned out to be amazing. Everything from the signature dish turned out to be amazing. A amazing blend of soup, fish and sauerkraut. The soup was rich fatty and delicious but had nice level of peppers to keep things spicy and interesting. The fish was tender, meaty and umai. The sauerkraut as well, was amazing. I really sort of discovered it truly in the end of the dish but the fermented cabbage had unique and delicious taste, a real strong sense of fermentation. Essentially its a sour and spicy dish. It does not have the vinegar of your typical hot and sour however it doesn't not need. It works because the spice really cuts into the fat and sour, elevating the whole experience. I also got the lemonade which was a treat. It was a nice pairing to the spicy dish and fatty dish of the signature. Entering was a breeze. Ordering was a breeze via the QR code. The service was great and did speak English (which is a plus for me). The environment was nice as well, clean as whistle and fun to look but also relatively relaxing. Leaving was also great. The restaurant gives really nice take home bags and containers. You can easily over order here but honestly its worth it. I could easily taking someone who loves Chinese but has never had the sauerkraut fish before and would be blown away.
Heard a lot of good things about this place so naturally have to try it out. Been to The Tangram numerous times so booking garage parking beforehand is very much encouraged since it was a Sunday. Free street parking is pretty much non existent if it is a Sunday and after 12 pm. Anyways we ordered the Signature Sauerkraut Fish Spicy for 2 ,Crispy Fried Pork and the Sichuan Lettuce Wrap with Pork. As for dessert I got myself the Brown Sugar Syrup Ive Jelly which I personally love!!!! The Wrap was surprisingly good with the pork being juicy and tender. The main dish being the fish dish was a tad too spicy for me. I guess I wasn't made for spicy foods. It was too spicy to really enjoy the broth. I ordered a white rice just to accommodate the broth. Otherwise it was OK. Personally I think it was a little overpriced but then again the restaurant is located within the Tangram Mall. Just so you know there are plenty of restaurants outside the mall that are walking distance.
we ordered the family meal, which came with more than enough food for four people to share. super generous portions and great variety. The highlight was definitely the signature sauerkraut fish, and we added tofu skin to soak up the broth. The dish was incredibly flavorful. The broth had that perfect balance of tanginess from the pickled cabbage, a gentle heat that warms you without overwhelmingly spicy. The fish slices were tender and silky, and the tofu skin absorbed all the flavors. I love to pour the soup broth over my rice and enjoy it that way. Overall, delicious food, great portion sizes, and a solid spot for sharing dishes family style.
A very great spot if you’re craving sichuan spice! Everything was flavorful and the meal didnt feel extremely heavy. Service was quick while the atmosphere was lively.
